These studies investigated the influence of different metals (Al alloy AA 2007, shipbuilding steel, and Zn) on the electrocoagulation process (EC) for Crystal Violet dye (CV) removal the at different initial solution pH values (pH = 3.2, 5.5, and 7). As the electrocoagulation process progresses, the temperature and pH of the solution increase. The lowest temperature increase was obtained with electrodes made of shipbuilding steel, and the highest with electrodes made of Zn. The lowest pH changes in the solution were observed when Al electrodes were used, while the highest pH changes were obtained during the tests with Zn electrodes. The conductivity of the solution does not change significantly during the EC process, regardless of the pH of the medium and the material of the electrode. The highest efficiency of CV dye removal by electrocoagulation was obtained using shipbuilding steel electrodes (over 90%) regardless of pH, with high percentages of removal achieved after only 15 minutes. The lowest removal efficiency was achieved with Zn electrodes. The lowest mass loss of the anodes was found with Al anodes, while the highest mass loss was found with Zn anodes. Examination of the condition of the anode surface with an optical microscope revealed that, in addition to the general dissolution of the anode, damage due to localized forms of corrosion was present in Al and shipbuilding steel, while grain boundaries were visible in Zn anodes due to intense general dissolution.
